HOW Group supplied commercial furniture for the new Autex Acoustics Australia Headquarters in Essendon Fields, supporting a workplace designed as both a functioning office and a live demonstration of acoustic performance, materiality and circular thinking.

Spanning 1600 square metres, the project brings together Autex’s corporate office, showroom, materials library and manufacturing facility within a single environment focused on collaboration, wellbeing and long term adaptability.

The Brief

As a manufacturer of acoustic solutions, the expectations for the workplace were exceptionally high. The new headquarters needed to demonstrate acoustic performance in real time while supporting focused work, collaboration and client engagement.

Durability, flexibility and sustainability were key considerations throughout the fitout, with the design team looking to create a workplace that reflected Autex’s long standing commitment to local manufacturing, recycled materials and circular design principles.

Circular Thinking and Materiality

Sustainability principles were embedded throughout the project. Acoustic products were manufactured to finished dimensions to reduce installation waste, while offcuts were recycled through Autex’s internal manufacturing processes.

The workplace also demonstrates how acoustic products can contribute to both performance and material efficiency. Panels, screens and ceiling elements are used throughout the office not only as finishes, but as active contributors to comfort, focus and wellbeing within the workplace.

This approach aligns closely with the broader shift towards long life, adaptable workplaces that reduce waste and support future flexibility.

HOW Group supplied Adapt Workstations throughout the open plan workspace, supporting a flexible and ergonomic working environment designed for long term use. Vicinity Screens were integrated across workstation settings to provide acoustic separation and visual privacy while complementing the broader acoustic strategy of the fitout.

Aveya Task Chairs were selected to support day to day ergonomic comfort, while Arco Chairs were introduced into meeting and boardroom spaces to provide a consistent and refined furniture language throughout the workplace.

The furniture package was designed to work seamlessly alongside the architectural and acoustic intent of the project, allowing acoustic materials, ceiling treatments and integrated product applications to remain the focus of the environment.

A key part of the project was the integration of acoustic thinking from the earliest stages of design. By considering acoustic treatment, furniture layout and material application together, the workplace achieves strong performance without relying on heavily separated spaces or excessive built form.
