Hawthorn English, a stepping stone for international students moving to university in Australia, moved into their new campus on Exhibition St with a vision to modernise its learning environments. Teaming up with CIA Designs, Hawthorn English sought to create contemporary spaces that fostered collaboration, innovation, and comfort. With a vision to blend functionality with aesthetics, the project encompassed various areas within the institute, including staff workstations, communal areas, and learning hubs. The highlight of the project was the views over the Exhibition St Reserve and the Heritage Royal Society of Victoria Building, and the dappled light through the cafeteria windows.
Recognising the importance of sustainability, workstations and seating that existed in Hawthorn's previous campus were restored and installed into the staff office alongside some new Adapt sit-stand workstations from HOW. The new spaces were designed to inspire both focus and relaxation, pieces like the D-Link Booths from HOW allow for private study or a comfortable breakaway seat. And of course the highlight of the breakout area is the Custom Table Tennis Table by HOW.
The modern learning environment requires flexible and moveable furniture. HOW provided trapezoid tables to allow for many different classroom formations, and the faux leather space lounge allowing for tranformations of the collaboration zones.
