Hydro Tasmania’s retail arm, Momentum Energy, needed their new Melbourne workplace to reflect the culture and flexibility of their previous fitout, while supporting an activity based way of working. Momentum Energy required a flexible environment that could support focused work, informal collaboration, formal meetings and training. The new office needed to feel connected to their broader workplace identity while responding to the needs of their Melbourne team.

Longevity and durability were key considerations across workstation and high use areas. There was also a clear intention to reuse existing furniture where possible, reducing unnecessary waste and supporting a more circular approach to the fitout.

Working closely with Hot Black, the new office was designed to incorporate reused and relocated furniture as part of the overall workplace strategy. Rather than starting from scratch, existing workstations were thoughtfully integrated into the new layout alongside new settings, ensuring visual consistency and functional performance across the floor.

HOW Group facilitated the relocation of workstations from Momentum Energy’s previous office, managing disassembly, transport and reinstallation. These were fitted with matching acoustic panels to align with the new Adapt Workstation settings. By retaining and reusing quality furniture, the project reduced material sent to landfill and avoided the need for additional virgin materials to manufacture entirely new settings.

New workstation areas were delivered using the Adapt Workstation, supported by task seating designed for daily ergonomic performance. All new workstations and task chairs were supplied with 10 year warranties, reinforcing a focus on durability and long term use.

Meeting rooms and training spaces were furnished with Arco Meeting Chairs, Layer Chairs and Layer Lite Chairs to support a range of settings. City Visitor Chairs were used in breakout areas and shared spaces.

Soft seating was introduced throughout collaboration zones and waiting areas, including IZA Lounge Chairs, Age Sofas, N Box Lounge Booths, N Box Modular Sofas and F Link Modular Sofas. Alto Coffee Tables and Rosie Laptop Tables provide additional flexibility for informal meetings and individual laptop work.

The result is a workplace that balances new and existing furniture, supporting Momentum Energy’s agile work style while taking a practical approach to circularity.
